When it comes to editing videos, chances are that you already have editing software installed on your computer, whether it’s Avid, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere or iMovie. But many content creators in this day and age — especially those who are solely digital content creators —  shoot, edit and upload directly from their smartphone or other mobile devices.

From free apps to paid apps, there are many options out there that you can easily download to your smartphone or tablet to edit videos on the go. Keep reading to learn about our top three picks.

Best for Beginners: InShot

If you are new to editing videos or don't have a ton of time to spend on it, InShot may be the video editing app for you. Available on iOS and Android devices, it offers both a free version and a paid version. This easy-to-use app allows you to trim videos, speed them up, add filters, merge clips, and even add voice-overs. Through the built-in library, you have access to royalty-free music to add to your videos as well.

With the free version, you will receive in-app ads and the InShot watermark will remain on your final video project. For $2.99/project, the watermark can be removed. Or, you can opt to pay a one-time fee of $34.99 to gain access to all of its premium features, including stickers and filters.

Best for Marketing: Magisto

Magisto is a video editing app by Vimeo that is available on iOS and Android devices and features several subscription options. This app has an intuitive and user-friendly interface, making it one of the top apps for video editing. It also uses a patented story detection tool called Emotional Sense Technology™ — powered by artificial intelligence — that automatically analyzes and edits raw videos and photos into produced videos. You begin by choosing your video editing style (Traveler, Fashion, etc.). Then add the videos/pictures you want to include and select music using the built-in library. Finally, the app will automatically edit and create your final video for you. It’s that simple!

Although there is no free option, Magisto does offer a 7-day trial that gives you access to all of its premium features, including HD video quality, social sharing, text animation, and a stock photo library. Once your free trial ends, you can select from one of three paid subscription plans, which range from $4.99/month to $34.99/month.

Best All Around: Adobe Premiere Rush

If you’re familiar with the video editing tools in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, Adobe Premiere Rush offers many of those familiar features, from audio and transition graphics to animated titles and text. You can also adjust the speed of your videos, pan, crop, or zoom, and enhance colors. Its multiple video track feature is one that established editors will appreciate, as you can easily cut videos and create split-video or picture-in-picture.

You can also resize your final video to fit different aspect ratios or use the app to automatically resize for social sharing dimensions (e.g. 4:5, square, portrait, etc.) on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. Adobe Premiere Rush is available for both iOS and Android devices with a free 30-day trial and for $9.99/month after that.
